Business First Wednesday - The social impact of business: How profits (can) make the world a better place Online
Should business be about the financial bottom line, or about making the world a better place? How can financial and social goals complement each other, rather than be in tension? What should we make of popular frameworks for thinking about the social responsibility of business, such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, stakeholder theory, and ESG investing?
This presentation provides participants with guidance for thinking through questions such as these. The goal of the talk is to help small business owners, and others who are interested, develop their thinking about what it means to do business ethically and how business can contribute to a better world.
Dr. Carson Young is an assistant professor of management at SUNY Brockport. He earned his PhD in Business Ethics & Legal Studies from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School in 2019. His teaching and research focus on ethics, sustainability, corporate social responsibility, management, and public policy.
