Mourning in the Morning: Frederick and Anna Douglass: The Family Life of a Very Public Man in the 1800s

Mourning in the Morning: Frederick and Anna Douglass: The Family Life of a Very Public Man in the 1800s Online

REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED (see below). Registrants will receive the Zoom link in an email one hour before the talk begins.

Rose O'Keefe is a non-fiction and historical fiction author in Rochester, New York. In the process of falling in love with the Finger Lakes area, she became keenly interested in the family life of Frederick and Anna Douglass. O'Keefe was among the first history authors to recognize the tremendous support Frederick received from his highly competent wife, Anna.

The Douglass family lived in southeast Rochester for 24 years, leading Rose to wonder what their life was like, and to connect present readers to past realities, like the strict privacy of women in the mid-1800s. O'Keefe’s pioneering research has been acknowledged by noted Douglass scholar Celeste-Marie Bernier Ph. D., University of Edinburgh, and Ka’mal McClarin, Ph. D., executive director of the Frederick Douglass National Park, at Cedar Hill in Washington D.C.

Mourning in the Morning is presented in partnership with the Friends of Mount Hope Cemetery.
