Rochester Reads 2022 Companion Program: Movie Screening for Teens & Adults followed by Discussion of Books for Kids & Teens In-Person

Teens and Adults, join us at the Mendon Public Library for this Rochester Reads 2022 Companion Program.  Jason Mott’s 2021 National Book Award‐winning novel, Hell of a Book, is Writers & Books featured 2022 Rochester Reads selection. Called “brilliant and inventive” by The Sunday Times (UK) and an “unflinching meditation on racism, violence, and navigating life as a Black man in America . . . a surreal and searing triumph” by Shelf Awareness for Readers, Hell of a Book is at once about family, love of parents and children, art and money. It also is about the nation’s reckoning with a tragic police shooting playing over and over again on the news.

On Tuesday night, October 25, teens and adults are encouraged to join us at the Mendon Public Library to watch a compelling movie that's based on Angie Thomas’s 2017 young-adult novel.  Pizza and beverages will be provided.  Following the movie, community member and educator, Lynn Shipe, will share information on three books lists she helped develop for our community.  One book list for juvenile and young adult readers is titled, “Books which promote the concepts of Tolerance, Respect, Dignity,  Awareness, and Sensitivity Toward Others for Juvenile and Young Adult Readers.”  The second is for younger readers and is titled,  “Stories to Promote Kindness, Friendliness, Understanding, and More Acceptance of Others.” A new book list featuring titles to educate readers on Civil Rights will be shared at this event.
