SUMMARY:Erik Lasky Art Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:\n\n \n\nErik Lasky(1983-) is an American Figurative painter.
He has identified himself as a ‘Kitsch Painter’ indicating the
influence from the movement defined by Norwegian painter Odd Nerdrum.
Themes in his work are generally narrative or allegorical depictions of
people\, places or objects. In his work\, he offers a direct challenge to
the ideology found in Conceptual or Modern Art\, choosing instead to focus
on realistic depictions that convey notions of melancholy\,
sentimentality\, and emotional ambivalence. \n\nAlong with a formal
education\, completed at SUNY Cortland and Elmira College in Studio Art\,
he has worked and studied under various representational painters including
Lori Ellis\, Marc Dennis and Mike Tanzer. Stylistic influences in his
work include Titian\, Rembrandt\, Goya\, and Andrew Wyeth. By using a
limited pallet and techniques from the Old Masters \, the subjects in his
paintings seem to glow from within\, isolated in an atmospheric fog and
appear almost religious or spiritual in nature.\n\nLasky’s work has been
included in various museums\, galleries and private displays attracting a
wide range of collectors. His work has been praised for providing a
“strong emotional impact...with a sincere approach regarding the human
condition.” Lasky has stated he is interested in a “dialogue with the
Old Masters and creating compositions that feel timeless”. He lives and
works in his hometown of Greene\, New York. \n\n\n\n\n
