DESCRIPTION:Francis Perkins (1880-1965) began her political career helping 
 Al Smith (first Irish-Catholic governor of NY) with workers’ issues\, and 
 then she worked with FDR when he was governor. FDR brought Perkins to the 
 White House when he became President. She was the first woman to ever serve 
 in the president's cabinet as Secretary of Labor and helped create the
