SUMMARY:From Ditches to Riches: Erie Canal Walking Tour (part of Roc the Riverway Weekend)
DESCRIPTION:The Erie Canal\, which celebrates its bicentennial this year\, 
 was instrumental in establishing Rochester as one of America’s first 
 boomtowns. The canal not only fueled Rochester’s economic development\, 
 but it also helped diversify the local population as it spurred the 
 settlement of immigrants and migrants with varying religious\, social\, and 
 political viewpoints.\n\nJoin us for an approximately 1-mile-long tour 
 along the Erie Canal’s former route downtown. The tour details the 
 canal’s rise and decline and showcases the many ways in which the 
 waterway transformed the Rochester community.\n\nMeet in front of the 
 Rundel Memorial Building.\n\nThis event is part of ROC the Riverway 
 Weekend.\n\nRegistration is strongly encouraged\, but not required.\n\n 
 \n\n*In case of inclement weather\, tour may be canceled
